Building Your Confidence

Bridget C. Williams

One of the things that held me back from pursuing my dreams for many years was fear of failure … and the lack of self-confidence that I needed to overcome that fear. My fear removal was an extreme life changing. I had to change my mind and turn what was happening to me into survival mode. The removal of fear had to leave my mind and my body.

Fear was not an option… fighting and survival mode is what kept me strong and resilient.     Are you worth fighting for?   I hope that the answer is yes.

When you start working on your self-confidence and self-esteem. Change those to different terms, that are what I’ve been doing over the years, and that’s what helped me finally overcome my fears, and finally pursue my dreams.

Truer words have never been spoken. It’s near impossible to make time for your dreams, to break free from the traditional mold, and to truly be yourself, if you have low self-esteem and self-confidence.

Start to look at things that will build your confidence.

Dress nicely for success. As a former Alumni member for Dress for Success, Vancouver, BC we were exposed to many success stories by helping other.   This doesn’t mean breaking the bank or spending money.  You can recycle your existing wardrobe and create lots of new outfits from what you currently have. This will give you a confidence boost. When you look good you feel better.  Keep negative talk out of your vocabulary.  Words are a powerful instrument. If you use negative talk it comes back to you. Revert to using positive talk no matter what your circumstances are.  Find something good in every bad situation day or whatever.

Empowering yourself is an amazing way to increase your confidence.   I CAN DO IT will get you through it every time.  I know for me this is one of the best strategies for building self-confidence. There are many ways to empower yourself but knowledge is the enhancement for it. It not about being vein it’s about self-realization and building competence and getting prepared.   By becoming more knowledgeable and doing the research, you’ll be more confident.  Explore a number of tools for instance people around you, books, online, libraries, magazines, educational institutions.

Thinking positive.  When you wake up say a prayers or that you are grateful and today is going to be an awesome day.  Now, I can actually change my thoughts, by doing s things mentally, physically, or spiritually to make great things happened. For instance when it’s raining, I call it liquid sun shine, showers of blessings, or earth purification which changes the image of rain. You can do this for so many other things. Act positive. Your actions are the stimulant to build confidence. You are what you do, and so if you change what you do, you change what you are. Speak and engage with people in positive way, put energy into your actions. You’ll soon start to notice a difference and it may manifest over time. Increase competence.   To become more competent is about studying and practicing. Just do small sections at a time. If you want to be a more competent employer, for example, don’t try to tackle the entire profession of you job all at once. Just begin to tackle task one at a time. Research what it is you want to acquire or obtain for you betterment.  Never stop learning because it is an ongoing process. Every day or free time just start to write (for example) and the practice will increase your competence. This can apply to work, school, or your business.

Be grateful. I’m a firm believer in gratitude, as anyone who’s been through many ordeals I can truly say I am grateful. This has been diarized because I feel it is necessary to start looking at what you have in life. Look at things that have been given to you by others.  Humility sometimes makes us appreciate what we have. it can also be a very positive and rewarding activity that will improve your self-image. Decreeing how grateful you are will give you an amazing sensation of how blessed you truly are.

Solutions. If you are a complainer, or focus on problems, change your focus now. Focusing on solutions instead of problems is one of the best things you can do for your confidence and your career. With every negative word that you utter about yourself…use a positive word to counteract it.   Most things that are negative can be transformed by using a positive solution to counteract.

Example: What is the solution to the problem?

Negative

  • I am so skinning

  • I can’t stop procrastinating

  • I have no energy

  • I don’t like how I look

  • Will I ever be successful

  • This is a bad day

  • It’s taking so long to get things done

Positive

  • I can start exercising or lift weights.

  • What tools will I use to motivate myself.

  • I will rest and relax to build up my energy.

  • I am going to re-create my look and make a change.

  • Start looking at things you have already accomplished because they are your successes.

  • Start to look at all the good things that happened throughout your day.

  • Look at the productive things you have done during the process. It will eventually be finished.
